Welcome to Xflats

Xflats is a place for the angler who seeks unspoiled fishing in a location that is relatively undeveloped, who is willing to go a little further for pristine flats and fishing opportunities that have become rare on our well-traveled planet. Located just north of the small town of Xcalak and the Belize border, Xflats offers unsurpassed fly fishing on a massive playing field from a casual beachfront setting.

Fishing Description

Xflats Lodge at Tierra Maya is perfectly situated on the southern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, arguably the most productive permit fishery on the planet. With vibrant ocean flats at your doorstep and the endless shallows of Chetumal Bay a 15 minute panga ride away, this is truly an angler's paradise. Highly experienced and talented local guides pick anglers up at the lodge's dock in the morning, where the day's fishing strategies will be made. Focus only on permit? Motor into Chetumal Bay for a chance at permit, bonefish, snook and tarpon? Look for permit and triggerfish on the ocean reef? Maybe sneak into the mangrove lined inner lagoons for snook, bonefish and baby tarpon? The options are endless and the lodge staff and guides will make every effort to accommodate guest's wishes.

Travel

It is undeniable that Xcalak is off the beaten path; that is a large part of its allure. As of January 2024, guests will make arrangements to fly into Cancun or Tulum International Airport the day prior to your booking at Xflats and plan to stay one night in a hotel near the airport. The Xflats staff will arrange a comfortable, air conditioned shuttle van to pick guests up around 10 am and begin the trip to the lodge. The drive is 4 to 5 hours long and is usually broken up by a delicious taco lunch in the Mayan city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and a stop at the hot sauce factory near Mahahual. That same shuttle will be arranged for guests' departure date.
