Welcome to El Saltamontes, Chile
Famous for dry fly fishing on pristine waters, El Saltamontes boasts the finest hopper fishing for wild trout in Patagonia. Centered on a 5,000 acre private ranch with rivers and lakes in every direction, the lodge is homebase for a fantasy week with a fly rod. Rich Patagonian culture, superb food and wine, spectacular views and some of the most professional, friendly, teaching-oriented guides in South America shape an impressive and unforgettable experience.
Fishing Description
The waters of El Saltamontes offer extraordinary variety for your fishing week. Wading the Rio Ñireguao, you'll be impressed by how much the river changes from mile to mile, transitioning frequently from pocket water to riffles and runs, mule shoe bends and grassy meadows above and below steep canyons. Beyond the home river, we fish Lago Norte with heavy brown trout that love to eat hoppers, its densely wooded inlet river called Rio Blanco, and Rio Norte, the outlet, which we both float and wade. Rio Mañihuales offers larger water and a classic Patagonia float for hefty rainbows and browns that can be fooled on large dry flies including mice, stoneflies, hoppers, beetles, dragonflies and a wide range of attractors.
