Among the last frontiers of fly fishing, Magdalena Bay is home to an unmatched variety of pelagic gamefish in a massive, pristine wilderness. The richness and wonder of this fishery cannot be surpassed or adequately described in words, but there is likely nowhere in the world that offers this level of fly fishing adventure for high stakes species, including roosterfish, marlin, and two dozen others.
Fishing Description
Los Locos offers two distinct fishing seasons in Magdalena Bay. "Summer" is May 24-Aug 2. "Fall," or "Marlin Season," is October 1-January 1. Summer is characterized by shallow water fishing, mostly with 10-weights, for the abundant roosterfish and snapper that inhabit inshore zones. Many other species come into the fray including grouper, yellowtail, jack crevalle, dorado and halibut, but roosterfish are among the most coveted of all gamefish and no place are they larger or more abundant than Mag Bay.
In the fall, marlin on the 12-weight are the primary target, but jumbo roosterfish, snapper, trevally and black snook are frequently encountered.
In both seasons, we fish from 28-foot custom built center console fiberglass pangas tricked out with lean bars, fore and aft casting platforms with SeaDeck, trim tabs and several other adaptations to make a large boat fish like a small boat for the fly fisher. Bean bags to comfort the ride and Turtlebox tunes for ambience make our runs a thrilling and enjoyable part of the adventure on Mag Bay.
Accommodations
Los Locos has partnered with a local eco hotel, Villas Mar y Arena, which provides our anglers with 2 palapa style villas that are on the water with panoramic views of Magdalena Bay. Each villa has 2 comfortable beds, a television, hot water, wifi, and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the property, guests enjoy a full service bar and restaurant with a relaxing outdoor patio on the water fit for enjoying a drink as the sun sets.
Over the course of the week, we will enjoy meals at various local restaurants which feature fresh seafood of every kind from local waters.

Travel
Fly to Loreto, Baja, Mexico, where you will be greeted by Los Locos staff and transported approximately 2.5 hours by auto to the fishing village of San Carlos, Mexico, home base for fishing Magdalena Bay. Our lodge, Villas Mar y Arena, is just a short truck bed ride from the dock, where we will launch into the great bay every morning. Upon request, Los Locos is happy to provide ground transfers to and from other airports on the Baja peninsula, but Loreto is the most convenient.
